Australian Grand Prix Pride Hub presented by Racing Pride and Proud 2 Play champions community at F1 season opener

Racing Pride began the 2025 Formula 1 season in spectacular fashion with an incredible Pride Hub at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The Pride Hub was hosted in partnership with local charity Proud 2 Play. With over 465,000 fans attending the event the atmosphere was amazing. Even Fatboy Slim stopped by to check out the Hub, chat with our community, and sign some posters!

Across the four days the Hub, staffed by volunteers from Proud 2 Play and Racing Pride, offered a welcoming, friendly, uplifting, safe space at the circuit for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. The Hub was fantastically managed on the ground by Kade Matthews, assisted by Sasky Stewart and the team at Proud 2 Play.

Attendees at the Pride Hub were able to gather, connect, and learn about past LGBTQ+ figures in motorsport as well as the initiatives happening now to champion inclusivity. The Pride Hub hosted talks from Racing Pride ambassadors Krystina Emmanouilides (CFD Engineer at Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber and Motorsport Australia FIA Girls On Track Ambassador) and Jessica Alexander (Works Driver for Apollo Karts, BPEC British Champion 2023 & 2024), alongside LGBTQ+ athletes and leaders from across sports.

Adam Trapski’s Rainbow Shoelace Project liveried BMW took pride of place in front of the Hub, while Cammie Sturch designed a stunning artwork for the back wall to chart the history of pride in motorsport featuring figures such as Lella Lombardi, Roberta Cowell, and Sarah Moore, as well as our bespoke programme page graphic.

It was also a great opportunity for our local and travelling Racing Pride members to be at the heart of the action for the start of the 2025 F1 season! As part of the Hub, members were able to enjoy the Grand Prix weekend with us and even had the chance to get up close with the cars and drivers during a pit walk. A memorable highlight was seeing Sir Lewis Hamilton in red outside the Ferrari garage ahead of his first race with the team!

As well as fully supporting the Pride Hub, over the last year the Australian Grand Prix has upskilled staff with knowledge of LGBTQ+ inclusion and allyship and provided an increased number of gender neutral facilities across the venue at the 2025 race to cater for all spectators.

A huge thank you to Australian Grand Prix Corporation for all of their support. Due to their ongoing efforts, this Grand Prix is becoming a shining example for how major motorsport events can truly embrace the LGBTQ+ community.
