Racing Pride hosts British Grand Prix and Goodwood Festival of Speed Pride Hubs

The Racing Pride team was excited to host our first Pride Hubs at both the British Grand Prix and Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer.

Members of the Racing Pride community volunteered to help run the Hubs and in exchange were able to attend the events with us. With twenty members attending the Grand Prix with us, and a dozen supporting our Hub at Goodwood, we were proud to share the incredible atmosphere of these events at the pinnacle of motorsport with our members, many of whom might otherwise not have been able to attend.

Racing Pride established a programme of Pride Hubs in order to raise awareness for the organisation and its work, and most importantly to celebrate and empower the LGBTQ+ community in motorsport.  Our aim is to create an uplifting experience for the community and its allies, to educate attendees at flagship events about allyship, and to provide a safe space during such events.

During the Silverstone British Grand Prix weekend, we had visitors to the Pride Hub stand from all of our partner F1 teams. We particularly appreciated team members from Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, Aston Martin Lagonda, Oracle Red Bull Racing, and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains coming to spend time and chat with visitors at the Hub.  Although the weather conditions were challenging at times, we kept our spirits – and gazebo – up and even provided shelter for our friends from Girls Across The Grid!

As part of a varied programme of fan events, Racing Pride held a stage slot hosted by Antonia Rankin, who spoke with our CEO Richard Morris, Ambassador Jordan Rand, and Community Champions Chloe Farkas and Manon Clement.

We were grateful that our partners Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team and Oracle Red Bull Racing supplied us with caps for fan competition giveaways which brought fun and excitement to the Hub. Cammie Sturch from Go For The Gap designed a special Pride Hub poster, which we distributed as a special souvenir to visitors. She also kindly donated prints of some of her iconic designs, including her drawing of Sebastian Vettel’s Same Love protest which we gave out at both the Silverstone and Goodwood Pride Hubs.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed provided us another opportunity to engage with community members and educate allies about Racing Pride’s mission for LGBTQ+ inclusion. In conjunction with Oracle Red Bull Racing’s special celebration, which marked the team’s twenty year milestone in Formula 1, we ran a competition for fans to win a race team backpack featuring the Drive For Change rainbow patch.

Volunteers from our Hub team were invited to visit and get up close with our partners across the event, including BWT Alpine F1 Team, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix, and McLaren Racing.  The Pride Hub provided a space for community engagement, as well as the opportunity to meet star visitors such as Sky Sports F1’s Bernie Collins.

Racing Pride Ambassadors were also out in full force driving in the famous hill climb, with community members in attendance able to cheer on our CEO Richard Morris and Ambassador Charlie Martin as they drove for Genesis and BMW respectively.
